The Vatican has rejected – on paper only – a request from the German Bishops' Conference to permit lay people to preach during the Eucharist by means of an "indult." The June 17 letter, written by Cardinal Arthur Roche, Prefect of the Dicastery for Divine Worship, was published on Dbk.de. The German bishops' proposal sought permission to allow lay employees, in the usual exceptional circumstances, to deliver a homiletic reflection following the Gospel during the Eucharist.
