These are all symptoms of a deeper problem: a crisis of faith. A crisis of faith cannot be resolved by professional programs or administrative procedures. It will require a spiritual renewal at the level of dioceses, parishes, even households. So why am I writing today to recommend an administrative change at the Vatican? Because any administrative system rewards certain attitudes, certain instincts, certain modes of understanding situations, certain likely responses.
